Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29, the team, the NBA and his agency confirmed Tuesday.
Neither the Grizzlies nor Clarke’s agency, Priority Sports, have released details about the cause of death.
However, ABC News reported that Los Angeles police sources said Clarke was found dead Monday in a home in the San Fernando Valley of a possible drug overdose. S
Sources told the broadcaster that narcotics were found at the scene and there were no signs of foul play.
The Grizzlies said they were “heartbroken by the tragic loss” of Clarke.
“Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten,” the team said in a statement.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver described Clarke as “a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with tremendous passion and grit.”
Clarke spent his entire seven-year NBA career with Memphis after being drafted in 2019.
He previously played college basketball for Gonzaga University and San Jose State.
