Prince Jackson has opened up about the emotional impact of the upcoming biopic about his father, Michael Jackson.
The 27-year-old son of the late pop icon said he broke down after reading the film script, written by award-winning English writer Graham King.
The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua Michael has already made history as the most viewed music biopic trailer ever, with over 116 million views in just 24 hours.
However, in the film, Michael’s real-life cousin Jaafar Jackson plays the King of Pop.
Prince, who served as executive producer on this deeply personal project, said the experience was deeply personal for him.
“It was very exciting. I spent a lot of time talking to Graham about the man I knew as my father, who is not the King of Pop, and not the Michael Jackson. He was the father to me,” he said.
He further explained that King spent months meeting with family members, friends and people who worked with his father to provide an honest portrayal of the man behind the legend.
“After I read the first draft of the script, I called him because I was crying afterwards. I told him he had the most authentic photo of my father,” Prince continued.
Reflecting on the story, he said the film captured his father’s journey from poverty in Gary, Indiana, to worldwide fame.
“That was my father, and that’s exactly who he is,” he said.
For the inexperienced, Michael will hit theaters in April.
