Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia to settle ‘personal’ rivalry in WBC welterweight title fight

Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia will fight in a blockbuster encounter in the first defense of the WBC welterweight title on September 12 in Las Vegas.

The announcement comes from Ryan Garcia, who announced his next opponent on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show on Monday. When Fallon asked him about his opponent, Garcia said he was “from the other side.”

To clarify context, he said: “No, he’s from across the pond. I’ll just say his name: Conor Benn. He talks a lot.”

“He actually confronted me at an awards show two years ago and my wife was there and he just pushed me and grabbed me,” the 27-year-old Californian added.

“Yeah, so it’s a bit personal.”

“So we’re ready to go get it, trust me guys! We’ll show them how it’s done!”

Ryan Garcia is currently the holder of the WBC welterweight title after defeating Marrio Barrios in February 2026.

Who is Conor Benn?

Conor Benn is a British professional boxer and the son of former two-division world champion Nigel Benn.
