‘Euphoria’ director talks about Sydney Sweeney ‘strange’ storyline

‘Euphoria’ director responds to season three’s unsavory storyline.

Creator Sam Levinson answers the thinking behind actress Sydney Sweeney’s problematic character development as her role wreaks havoc among audiences

“[Cassie] has her doghouse and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor, but what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it,” Levinson told the Hollywood Reporter.

“What we always wanted to find is the other layer of absurdity that we can connect in it, so that we don’t get too much into her fantasy or illusion – the joke is to jump out, to break the wall.”

Meanwhile, Marcell Rév, the show’s director of photography, adds: “An obvious choice would have been something modern and very simple and chic, but in the end we chose this mid-century house, which is a bit tacky, but also stuck in the ’70s,” Rév explains.

“It’s probably a strange choice, but it also offers us opportunities,” he noted.
